What is the Gambler 500?
It's an overland adventure challenge that began in Oregon in 2014, and spawned a culture of unlikely environmentalists who believed that leaving the land MUCH better than they found it is critical to sustainable enjoyment of the outdoors.
The Gambler 500 currently holds the world record for largest trail cleanup in history, with over 3,800 volunteers participating,10,000 miles covered, and over 180 yards of debris collected.
What Are the Rules of the Gambler 500?
- This is not a race.
- There is no $500 rule.
- This is the world’s largest and most competitive trail cleanup.
- Bring trash bags to the trail with you. Dumpsters will be provided on-site for disposal.
- You are responsible for your actions. Make sure they meet everyday legal standards.
- Be nice.

Tool Kits
“A tool set – wrenches, pliers, knives, all those sorts of things – come in handy as you navigate trails in your Gambler car.”

“Two parts you squish together that become rigid. For holes in gas tanks, radiators, oil pans, and body repairs.”
Hand Towels
“At times, you might want a snack and you need to clean the grease off your hands. Or maybe they're handy at the other end of things when you need some relief out there on the trails.”
Tire Repair Kit
“I really like the Slime brand. The slime itself will fill your tire up and patch a small hole."
Zip Ties
“Zip ties have a multitude of uses out on the trail. They come in handy in any and every scenario.”
Duct Tape
“Hand-in-hand with the zip ties. Basically good for anything: wiring, fabrication, a bandage – combine the duct tape with a shop towel to patch yourself up.”
Super Start Batteries
“It’s very important to have a solid battery at the beginning of any adventure. I always recommend a Super Start battery.”

“If you’re losing oil or burning oil—a lot of these cars burn a lot of oil—you’ll need to fill them back up. I personally like Syntec. Never a bad idea to bring extra oil on your journeys.”
