The mass air flow (MAF) sensor measures the mass flow rate of air entering the engine. This information is then used by the ECU to calculate the amount of fuel needed for the correct air-fuel mixture. If the mass air flow sensor has failed or needs to be cleaned, this can cause especially rich or lean fuel mixtures. That can result in hard starts or stalling after starting, or hesitation while under load, at idle, or accelerating. You may also notice jerking during acceleration.
