Potential car buyers are often told that foreign cars are more dependable and a better deal than those made in America, but many consumers would be surprised to find out that the cars they think are foreign actually are manufactured in the U.S.

According to Kelley Blue Book, six of the 10 best-selling vehicles in the country are from foreign automakers, but all 10 are manufactured in America.

"Coming off the heels of election week when many Americans celebrate democracy and patriotism, we thought new-car shoppers would be happy to learn that many popular models with foreign nameplates are actually made right here in the United States," said Jack Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com. "German, Japanese and Korean automakers continue to build more vehicles stateside. The made-in-the-USA standouts on our list all feature birthplaces in the American Midwest or South."

One of the cars that might be categorized as a foreign luxury vehicle, but is made in America is the 2013 BMW X3. The BMW model production was relocated from Austria to Spartanburg, South Carolina. The car is a second-generation model and is larger and more luxurious than the prior model.

Another vehicle that is often thought to be foreign is the 2013 Honda Accord. The Honda Accord was the first Japanese car that was planned to be built and sold in the United States. Since 1982, the automaker has built more than nine million Accords in Marysville, Ohio, and is continuing to give consumers some of the most cutting edge technology in new vehicles being offered.

The 2013 Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry are also manufactured in the United States. The Hyundai Sonata is one of KBB.com's 10 Best Sedans Under $25,000 and is built in Montgomery, Alabama, while the Toyota Camry is manufactured in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Also on the Kelley Blue Book list of cars Americans didn't know was manufactured in the U.S. is the 2013 Volkswagen Passat. The German sedan is manufactured in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and provides a smooth and comfortable ride for those who want a more luxurious performance from their vehicles.

Cars.com, one of the premier online resources for new and used vehicles, recently named the Honda CR-V and Toyota Camry as the top redesigned vehicles of the year, which could continue improving the auto market in the U.S. considering more potential car buyers might look to purchase the new Toyota Camry.
