Angie's List, a leading provider of consumer reviews, recently asked auto repair specialists for advice concerning vehicle care.

At the top of the list of advice was the importance of changing oil. Services are typically inexpensive and extend the life of an engine, while avoiding other problems that could snowball from not changing the oil. It also allows a technician to inspect other important aspects of the vehicle.

Getting a second opinion or estimate can save hassle and money, especially when repairs are needed on more expensive areas of the car like engine or transmission.

“When you are having auto work done, a second opinion is a great investment,” said Angie Hicks, of Angie's List, told KDKA, a CBS from Pittsburgh. “It might seem like it will take extra work, but if you are at all concerned about the recommendations, get a second opinion.”

The consumer review website says that letting damage go too long will only create more problems for the vehicle. When brakes are making grinding or humming sounds, that probably means the car needs new rotors. It is far less expensive to replace just brake pads compared to replacing both brake pads and rotors, so be sure take a car to a trusted repair shop as soon as you notice a problem.
